I like the birds more than my friends, but that don't mean that I don't wanna see you again, I like your face more than your mind, but that don't mean that your not truly one of kind, You can meet me by the river, I'll have a fishing rod and auto-zither, we'll sing about our new found friendship, and drink a bottle of whatever weve got, You'll tell me why I don't make any friends, but only after I have asked you if it's a sin to wear a smile at a funeral, even if it's someone you love, You'll answer me yes in the way that you do, and then you'll tell me that my problem lies - with the things that I do, I never call when it's your birthday, but I bought you a bottle of rum, I also got you out of working, an I made that money come and made all that money come. I like the birds more than my friends, but that don't mean that I don't wanna see you again, I like your face more than your mind, but that don't mean that your not truly one of kind Then you'll tell me that i'm living in the past, and that all the things I try never last, Then you'll laugh at me cos I can't bait my hook, and then poke fun because I've never read the book I like the birds more than my friends, but that don't mean that I don't wanna see you again, I like your face more than your mind, but that don't mean that your not truly one of kind, I like the birds more than my friends, but that don't mean that I don't wanna see you again, I like your face more than your mind, but that don't mean that your not truly one of kind

Are there are no net curtains in New York? lip reading superceeding early morning walks bathrobed married ladies, arguments and gravy pouring window style TV, the only place to see New York Are there no net curtains in New York? soap opera view, cliffhanging truths and life affirming talks, domestic trials seen and heard, exchange of first time honest words, young couples will agree, the only place to see New York Central Park can kiss my but you ain't seen nothing yet. Remove yourself from tourist traps, drop your guard destroy your map, follow someone elses nose and walk till you can't feel your toes the only place to see the only place to be New York Are there no net curtains in New York, Al Pacino's future lover looks through window as a hawk, she had seen the violence on another cloudy day, but hangers hang in empty drobes, a smile erupts, she took her clothes, now lives a better life, as someone elses wife, the only way to see the only place to be New York

oh london town, how I am used to you, your curvy streets and countless avenues, I pass them by without a sigh, without a point of view, you grew fat and old and I'm not sure if I still love you. And how sad, that the thrill has gone, red double decker bus doesn't turn me on, oh the days when I was high from the thought of you you grew fat and old and I'm not sure if I still love you. there are still many doors to open, and just as many floors to soak in, I won't be giving up on her jusy yet I'll arm myself with a to z and gatecrash with hypochrosy Oh London town I'll never forget Oh London town I'll never forget oh london town, how I am used to you, your lifeless grey bridges and your dull statues, don't inspire me to sing like they used to do, you grew fat and old and I'm not sure if I still love you.

Amsterdam 03:59
The moment I stepped onto Amsterdam dirt I was hooked, From the red coloured bricks of the cycle rich streets to the water filled avenues spreading they're wings across - tram driven people with unselfish smiling that balance the warmth and the goodness inside of the city that has the most wide open mind, its clear that they leave all they're troubles behind (of them) Oh Amsterdam, oh Amsterdam The moment i stepped onto Amsterdam dirt I was hooked, The women in windows who work for themselves are not forced to be living that middleman prostitute hell is a place that is far from this town, I'm high from it all but my feet are still touching the grounded young people with angerless eyes are destined to never be living a life full of lies. this city is rich with an honest desire of setting my withered old spirit on fire with buildings that tilt with affectionate lean reflecting the people, go visit, and see what I mean, One coffeeshop moment is all that I'll feed on it's far from Important not something i need but the ritual of this is a feeling quite free from the uptight and ignorant ethics of something unseen. I've a taste for this heaven like nowhere I've ever been, how can I leave it behind? But that's not the peak of my love for this city because at the end of it all there was you... The moment I stepped onto Amsterdam dirt I was hooked, From the red coloured bricks of the cycle rich streets to the water filled avenues spreading they're wings across - tram driven people with unselfish smiles that balance the warmth and the goodness inside of the city that has the most wide open mind, its clear that they leave all they're troubles behind (of them)

I'm dreaming of the farm we'll never have, we'll have a roof of thatch and healthy cabbage patch, we'll have seven dogs and be overrun with fleas, but we won't care about the dusty dirt upon our knees. the dirt upon our knees, oh the dirt upon our knees, I'm dreaming of the farm we'll never have. We'll brew beer in a designated shed, and at the weekend we'll make the best in wholemeal bread, With a dense green forest and a river near our land, we'll fish for our supper and chop our logs by hand we'll chop our logs by hand, oh were chop our logs by hand, I'm dreaming of the farm we'll never have. They'll be an aga, partly installed by your father, an apple orchard, a little place to feel awkward, because I know you've always wanted that, aswell as boat and a big fat cat, dreaming of the farm we'll never have, I'm dreaming of the farm where we wont live, we'll have a big yellow tractor and a dire need to give They'll be a tree where pigeons go, and old deep well where we can throw our loose change in to wish for things like this I'm dreaming of the farm we'll never have, a roof of thatch and a healthy cabbage patch, we'll have seven dogs and be overrun with fleas, but we won't care about the dusty dirt upon our knees. the dirt upon our knees, oh the dirt upon our knees, I'm dreaming of the farm that we may have.

360 03:09
I'm always awake when they turn the street lights off so I use it as a sign to go walking through the fields. Rolling hills of every green, and sheets of dew with a silver sheen, caused by the golden rays of sunlight through the purple sodden clouds. And there's nobody here but me and I can really feel and see, why anybody would believe there was a god. And every season has a scene, and everybody has a dream, but there's no need for aspirations when surrounded by creations. And there's nobody here but me and I can really feel and see, why anybody would believe there was a god. Take a walk away from man, Abolish every kind of plan you have and find yourself a hill, then do a 360, let your senses grow, up here there's only time to kill. And when the sunshine says goodbye, gives way to prussian coloured sky, that is the moment when our hearts become as fragile as a cup, without a thought for why it is, you're spirit falls a little bit, that is the power of the tower that is named the universe. And when our world comes to an end, maybe an if, and not a when, they'll be a space in space left open where our globe once had it's home. But if and when it ever comes, let's celebrate what we've become and look around our greenish planet with a mighty sense of ore. And there's nobody here but me and I can really feel and see, why anybody would believe there was a god. Take a walk away from man, Abolish every kind of plan you have and find yourself a hill, then do a 360, let your senses grow, up here there's only time to kill.

My seaside town, coloured grey, green, beige and brown, In my youth you had kept me, and then the truth had upset me, when I heard that they had polished you to something new. I yearn to wander your entirety today, I'll take a train but I'll arrive there far too late, I'll miss the sunshine reflecting on your waves, and then the moonlight will be hidden by the slaves (clouds). This seaside town will almost always win my heart, without the music and the people and the art, and yes I know that you don't have Je ne sais quoi but there is nothing like the taste of the air beside my seaside, beside the sea. My coastal town, that Mr morrissey urged to closed down and he's whispered his sweet words into my ears, I never thought old littlehampton could bring me to tears... the sheer mention of your name has gotten me all the same beside the seaside, beside the sea. I yearn to wander your entirety again, and I will wake as early as I can to catch the first train, I'll visit every road where I have stayed, got paid, got laid, Oh I'll never let the memories fade

Dust 02:30
Should I sing about the dust in the corner of the room? as it formulates a crust and won't be going very soon, and there's a moth between the curtain and the window, and there's a new hole in the shirt I bought at heathrow. Should I sing about the shirt I bought at heathrow airport? we were waiting for a plane to take us to our new york, I don't care alot for reason but I've lots of time for rhyme, You could have me down for treason if you saw inside my mind, but I am wreckless with my words so there's no need to look inside, it was 5am and I was far to tired to love you, and I could only really focus on the sky above you. Should I sing about the sky that lies high above you? It was blue for once but I was noone good to speak to, We were lying in a london park with luke warm champagne, and you were asking me about the holidays I use to take, I use to take I don't care alot for reason but I've lots of time for rhyme, You could have me down for treason if you saw inside my mind, but I am wreckless with my words so there's no need to look inside, Should I sing about the dust in the corner of the room? or should I sing about the holidays I used to take late june? Should I sing about the shirt I bought at heathrow airport? or should I sing about the sky that my memory caught?, that my memory caught? I don't care alot for reason but I've lots of time for rhyme, You could have me down for treason if you saw inside my mind, but I am wreckless with my words so there's no need to look inside, Im just the kind of man with no place for these crazy thoughts to hide

Money Year 03:31
This is not the money year, and yes i know I said it was, but the wall got even higher, and it's left me at a loss, The rope bridge disappeared, between the want and the got, this is not the money year, there is nothing in my pot, you wanted shoes, I wanted cars, and we planned for a trip to the stars, we wanted stocks, we wanted shares, this was our chance to become true millionaires oh how I wanted us to be, in a sweet cave of money, with tapestries, balconies and bulgarian rose honey we'd have villa with a swimming pool in a awesome place that's sunny all year round... But this is not the money year, and yes I know I said it was, but the big fish didn't bite, still everything will be alright, look up to the skies, I can see the big prize, it's something money can't buy, it's you and I, it's you and I, its you and I for another night... But this is not the money year, and yes I know I said it was, but there's something money can't buy, its you and I

Canary 05:02
Stainless steel and bad moustaches, a hot headed week of broken promises, from tired men inside there stiff cloth, good nature is concrete and glass. good nature is concrete and glass. 40 Stories high and the smell of newness, Guarded by the face of the useless, illluminous gardens with immaculate care, short skirted ladies with over tight hair, good nature, concrete and glass. good nature is concrete and glass. a tidal river threatens all the work they had put in, but as they pass, some would hope, that the water rose and drowned them for there sins. Ambition and money combined, a popular cocktail for this kind of women and men, who crave the big spend, good nature is concrete and glass. good nature is concrete and glass. DLR or car, back to spouse or fancy bar, drunk by 9pm, lets do it all again. good nature, concrete and glass. one more year I'll have no more rungs to climb one more year I'll have no more rungs to climb

about

Ramble: Definition:

1. Walk for pleasure, typically without a definite route
2. Talk or write at length in a confused or inconsequential way.

The Album Ramble is as much about the love of the written word as it is for the love of travel, nature and diversity. It covers the concept of "place" - from cities across the globe to the idea of a "place" in society and employment.

The Album will take you on a journey (should you let it), with the order of the tracks carefully selected to take you through different themes,
The song "I Like The Birds" is a whimsical and light hearted start to the album, which introduces Steven's love for language; but it mainly suggests his love for nature and wildlife and a polite and humorous disregard for the human race, which is also displayed by the presence of his cat on the front of the album sleeve and his own portrait modestly situated on the back.

The next 3 songs "No Net Curtains in New York", "Old Grey London" and "Amsterdam" are songs which share different relationships with different cities, "No Net Curtains in New York" is specifically based on a scene from the film "Frankie and Johnny", Frankie (Michelle Pffiefer) looks from her window (curtain free) to that of a woman who is beaten by her husband, later in the film she sees the husband arrive home to empty wardrobes, a message of courage and hope reflected in the final verse. "Old Grey London" is a love song, a troubled romance between the artist and his city, the city is "fat and old" but the love won't die easily, a true love/hate relationship, this song is sang with real affection. "Amsterdam" is an honest pen-driven reaction to an experience with a new city, bursting with positivity and respect, the lyrics are literally thrown from the heart and out of the mouth towards the listener, with pace and without compromise.

The next 2 songs "Farm" and "360" reinstates the artists love for nature, the song "Farm" (with guest vocals from Josienne Clarke and Melodeon from Nick Cooke) is a heartbreaking story of an unreachable goal, possibly through debt or lack of courage, it isn't without hope, as the last lyric "the farm that we MAY have" suggests. "360" is a strong lyric based song which encourages you (the listener) to enjoy the natural world by leaving the office, finding a hill and turning round "do a 360" with wide open eyes, it is what first inspired Steven to name the album "Ramble".

"Littlehampton" and "Arundel Castle" are nostalgic and personal accounts of the artists younger years, there is an obvious strong bond between the artist and his home town, with an effortless reach into the memories of a dedicated seaside town individual, these songs also allow the listener to reflect on they're own memories specifically those of childhood and long lost places.

"Dust" is a window into the artists "loose fitting" mind with the listener being asked "What should I sing about?" but also suggesting that the artist can/will write about anything he desires, it is a very personal and poetic song with a light and playful feel.

The songs "Money Year" and "Canary" cover the theme of wealth and class, "Money Year" is a tale of financial woe and material desire with a sudden realisation that money can't buy love, one of life's true clichés, this song is particularly sad in sentiment and the hammond keyboard at the end of the song shines through. The last song on the album "Canary" is based on those men and women who are desperate to succeed in working life, specifically the city workers who crave to reach to the top of the ladder, the repeating chorus indicating that there is no end to they're desires and wants, the last voice on the album is guest singer Josienne Clarke singing "One more year I'll have no more rungs to climb", a brave an courageous way to end an album.

This album is a journey in many respects, it is music but it is also poetry and art. It is a very considered collection of " modern descriptive folk" songs with an "english countryesque" feel.
